![ Zuurbes - Groen van bij ons](https://groenvanbijons.staging.novation.website/sites/default/files/public/styles/mobile/public/generated/images/plant/a_303.jpg?itok=gYgttMka) ![Plantdetail](#) # Zuurbes ## Berberis x stenophylla Zuurbes (Vaccinium sp.) omvat verschillende soorten zoals bosbes, cranberry en lingonberry die kleine, zure rode of blauwe bessen produceren. Deze laaggroeiende struikjes worden 20-60 cm hoog afhankelijk van de soort en hebben kleine, ovale bladeren die vaak rood kleuren in de herfst. Bloeien in mei-juni met kleine klokjesvormige bloemen, gevolgd door eetbare bessen in de zomer. Alle soorten hebben zure grond nodig en groeien van nature in venige, vochtige omstandigheden. Vormen langzaam uitbreidende tapijten via worteluitlopers. Bessen zijn rijk aan antioxidanten en vitamines. Bladeren van sommige soorten zijn wintergroen. Zeer winterhard maar gevoelig voor kalk in de grond. Zuurbes is perfect voor natuurtuinen en eetbare landschappen. Zuurbes is ideaal als ondoordringbare vak- of haagbeplanting. De plant is niet geschikt langs passage en is minder bestand tegen (zee)wind. ### Cultivars (Soorten) 'Corallina Compacta' wordt maar 30 cm hoog en heeft een gelig blad en koraalrode bessen; 'Crawley Gem' bloeit heel rijk en groeit als laag spreidend struikje tot 1 m hoog. ### Onderhoud Plant zuurbes in halfschaduw in zure, vochtige grond. Gebruik rhododendrongrond of voeg zure compost toe. Snoei minimaal - alleen dode takken verwijderen. Mulch met naaldhoutschors voor zure bodem. Water met regenwater, niet met hard leidingwater. Geef speciale zuurminnende plantenvoeding. ### Dit wist je nog niet: Zuurbes soorten werden traditioneel verzameld uit de wilde natuur en zijn belangrijke cultuurgewassen geworden in Noord-Europa.
