Deze plant wordt 100-400 cm hoog afhankelijk van cultivar en heeft grote, ruwe bladeren met bloemen tot 30 cm doorsnee die juli-september verschijnen. De bloemen bestaan uit gele straalbloemkronen rond grote schijf vol kleine bloemetjes die zaad produceren. Plant volgt zon gedurende dag (heliotropisme) en groeit zeer snel. Ze verkiezen een zwaardere, voedzame grond. Plantdichtheid: 3 - 4 per m² ### Onderhoud Zaai zonnebloem direct in volle zon in rijke grond na alle kans op vorst. Plant heeft veel voeding nodig. Water regelmatig - grote bladeren verdampen veel water. Bemest voor optimale groei en bloemgrootte. Stake zeer hoge cultivars tegen wind.
