# Waterlelie

## Nymphaea sp.

Waterlelie (Nymphaea) is een waterplant met drijvende bladeren en spectaculaire bloemen die uitstekend geschikt is voor vijvers waar watertuinen en aquatische schoonheid centraal staan. Deze plant heeft ronde drijfbladeren en bloemen die boven water uitsteken in wit, roze, geel, rood of paars, die 's ochtends openen en 's middags sluiten gedurende zomermaanden.

De bladeren drijven op wateroppervlak en hebben wasdichte coating. Bloemen staan op stelen die van onder water omhoogkomen en hebben vele lagen bloemblaadjes. Plant groeit uit wortelstok in vijverbodem en vereist stilstaand of langzaam stromend water. Waterlelie is essentieel voor watertuinen waar aquatische schoonheid en vijver-ecosystemen centraal staan.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Waar plaatsen

​Deze plant moet altijd in een vijver of wateroppervlak van minstens 20 tot 100 centimeter diep staan (hangt van de lelie af). Ze staan het best zolang mogelijk in volle zon en aan de hand van de soort is het aangeraden om vissen te hebben of niet. Ook de beschadiging als gevolg van stromend water of grootte van het ruimte oppervlak hangt af van de soort.

### Onderhoud

Plant waterlelie in mand op juiste diepte in vijver. Gebruik speciale waterplanten-grond zonder voeding.

Bemest met speciale waterlelie-tablets in mand. Knip gele bladeren en uitgebloeide bloemen regelmatig weg.

Bescherm winterharde soorten door manden dieper te zetten in winter. Niet-winterharde binnen halen.

### Dit wist je nog niet:

Nymphaea groeit wereldwijd in stilstaande wateren en was heilig in oude Egypte als symbool van hergeboorte.

Plant symboliseert zuiverheid en spirituele groei door opkomst vanuit modder naar pure bloem boven water.
