# Virginische jeneverbes

## Juniperus virginiana 'Skyrocket'

Virginische jeneverbes (Juniperus virginiana) is een Noord-Amerikaanse conifeer met schubachtige naalden en kegelvormige groei die uitstekend geschikt is voor windschermen en structurele beplanting waar wintergroene accent-bomen gewenst zijn. Deze boom wordt 10-20 meter hoog en heeft schubachtige naalden die donkergroen zijn met blauwgroene bessen op vrouwelijke planten die vogels voeden.

Plant heeft kegelvormige groei bij jonge exemplaren en wordt breder met leeftijd. Naalden zijn klein en schubachtig, donkergroen met soms bronzing in winter. Boom is tweehuizig met mannelijke en vrouwelijke planten - alleen vrouwelijke produceren bessen. Virginische jeneverbes is perfect voor grote landschappen waar windbestendigheid en wintergroene structuur centraal staan.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Waar plaatsen

Plant de conifeer in de zon tot halfschaduw en zorg dat de standplaats niet te nat is. Hij groeit goed in een licht kalkrijke, neutrale tot een licht zure bodem.

### Onderhoud

Plant virginische jeneverbes in volle zon in goed doorlatende grond. Plant verdraagt verschillende omstandigheden.

Snoei minimaal - alleen vormcorrecties. Plant heeft van nature elegante kegelvorm.

Water eerste jaren regelmatig. Gevestigde boom is zeer droogteverdragend en onderhoudsarm.

### Dit wist je nog niet:

Juniperus virginiana groeit wild in oostelijke Noord-Amerika en werd 'red cedar' genoemd vanwege rode kernhout.
