# Vingerhoedskruid

## Digitalis purpurea

Vingerhoedskruid (Digitalis purpurea) is een inheemse tweejarige plant met grote bladeren en hoge aren van paarse of witte trompetbloemen die uitstekend geschikt is voor natuurlijke bosranden maar extreem giftig voor mensen en dieren. Deze plant wordt 100-200 cm hoog en heeft grote, wollige bladeren met bloemen in eenzijdige aren die juni-augustus verschijnen.

De bloemen zijn trompetachtig en hangen aan een kant van de stengel in dichte aren. Binnenklant heeft donkere vlekken die bijen leiden naar nectar. Plant is volledig giftig - alle delen bevatten hartvormige glycosiden die dodelijk kunnen zijn. Vingerhoedskruid is waardevol voor wilde tuinen waar inheemse flora centraal staat, maar vereist extreme voorzichtigheid.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Waar plaatsen

Vingerhoedskruid is niet bodemspecifiek, zolang de bodem goed doorlatend en humusrijk is groeit hij goed. Hij groeit goed in de volle zon tot halfschaduw en de bodem mag wat droger zijn. Plantdichtheid: 6 - 12 per m²

### Cultivars (Soorten)

'Apricot' heeft geligroze bloemen; 'Alba' is een witbloeiende cultivar; Digitalis ferruginea heeft goud- tot lichtbruin gekleurde bloemen, dooraderd met donkerder bruin.

### Onderhoud

WAARSCHUWING: Plant alleen in afgelegen wilde gebieden ver van kinderen, huisdieren en wandelpaden.

Gebruik handschoenen bij alle contact. Verbrand plantmateriaal veilig - rook is ook giftig.

Informeer alle tuingebruikers over extreme gevaren. Overweeg veiligere alternatieven voor gezinstuin.

Digitalis purpurea is inheems in Westerse wouden maar werd berucht door gebruik in hartmedicijnen en vergiftigingen.
