Deze planten worden 15-80 cm hoog afhankelijk van type en hebben lancetvormige bladeren met karakteristieke bekervormige bloemen die maart-mei verschijnen. De bloemen hebben zes bloemblaadjes in bekervorm en zijn beschikbaar in vrijwel elke kleur en combinatie. Van kleine botanische soorten tot grote gevulde cultivars. Plant groeit uit bollen die jaarlijks nieuwe bloemen produceren als ze goed verzorgd worden. Tulp is onmisbaar voor Nederlandse voorjaarstuinen waar bollencultuur en seizoenskleur centraal staan. Plant de bollen ongeveer drie keer zo diep als hun hoogte, met de punt naar boven. Houd tussen de bollen een afstand van ongeveer 5 centimeter aan. Tulpen hebben een periode van kou nodig om in het voorjaar tot bloei te komen. ### Cultivars (Soorten) Verkrijgbaar in enkele of dubbele bloemblaadjes, ook als franje- en parkiettulpen met gekartelde bloemblaadjes, lelietulpen en pioentulpen. ### Onderhoud Plant tulpenbollen oktober-december op 15 cm diep in goed doorlatende grond. Drainage is essentieel. Laat bladerwerk geel worden voordat wegknippen - voedt bol voor volgend jaar. Mulch licht in winter. Water tijdens voorjaar, maar stop na bloei. Graaf bollen op na 3 jaar voor verdeling of verplaatsing. ### Dit wist je nog niet: Tulipa komt oorspronkelijk uit Centraal-Azië en werd symbool van Nederlandse Gouden Eeuw tijdens tulpenmanie.
