# Tamarisk

## Tamarix tetrandra

Tamarisk (Tamarix) is een mediterrane struik met fijne, naaldachtige bladeren en roze bloempluimen die uitstekend gedijt in zoutrijke en droge omstandigheden waar weinig andere planten overleven. Deze struik wordt 200-400 cm hoog en heeft zeer fijne, schubachtige bladeren met luchtige pluimen van kleine roze bloemen die mei-september verschijnen.

De bladeren zijn extreem klein en grijs-groen, aangepast aan droogte en zout. Bloemen verschijnen in vedervormige pluimen aan takpunten en geven plant een luchtige textuur. Plant heeft elegante, overhangde groeiwijze en kan zeer oud worden. Tamarisk is essentieel voor kusttuinen waar zout en wind extreme uitdagingen vormen.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Waar plaatsen

Tamarisk is weinig bodemspecifiek, de grond dient wel goed doorlatend te zijn en eerder te droog dan te nat. Geef een plaats in de volle zon. Ondanks z'n warrige groei is dit een ideale plant voor een zonnige plek aan de kust en zelfs als windbrekende haag. Tamarisk is goed bestand tegen luchtvervuiling.

### Onderhoud

Plant tamarisk in volle zon in goed doorlatende grond. Plant verdraagt zout, wind en extreme droogte.

Snoei in voorjaar door oude en beschadigde takken weg te nemen. Plant verdraagt harde snoei goed.

Water alleen eerste jaar na aanplant. Daarna volledig droogteverdragend. Geen bemesting nodig.

### Dit wist je nog niet:

Tamarix groeit wild langs Middellandse Zee en in woestijngebieden. Symboliseert veerkracht in extreme omstandigheden.

Plant toont perfecte aanpassing aan zout en droogte en wordt steeds relevanter door klimaatverandering.
