# Struikheide

## Calluna vulgaris

Struikheide (Calluna vulgaris) is een inheemse wintergroene heide met kleine naaldachtige bladeren en massa's kleine bloemen in roze, paars of wit die uitstekend gedijt in zure grond en essentieel is voor heidelandschappen. Deze lage struik wordt 20-60 cm hoog en heeft schubachtige bladeren met kleine klokjesvormige bloemen die augustus-oktober verschijnen wanneer weinig andere planten bloeien.

De bloemen verschijnen in dichte aren aan de takpunten en zijn zeer geliefd bij bijen en vlinders tijdens late zomermaanden. Plant heeft naaldvormige bladeren die wintergroen blijven en vaak verkleuren in winter. Vele cultivars beschikbaar met verschillende bloemkleuren en bloeitijden. Struikheide is essentieel voor heidelandschappen waar inheemse flora en late zomerbloei centraal staan.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Waar plaatsen

Struikheide is een typische plant voor zure grond. Het is een excellente bodembedekker die ook op plekken met zeewind, bijvoorbeeld in de duinen groeit. Hou je ze in potten, plant ze dan in aangepaste potgrond. Plantdichtheid: 1 tot 3 per m²

### Onderhoud

Plant struikheide in volle zon in zure, goed doorlatende grond. Voeg turf toe aan gewone tuingrond.

Snoei jaarlijks na bloei door bloeiende takken licht terug te knippen. Bevordert compacte groei.

Water met regenwater tijdens droge periodes. Mulch met naaldhoutsnippers. Bemest niet - houdt van schrale grond.
