# Spierstruik - Japanse spirea

## Spiraea japonica 'Albiflora'

Spierstruik-Japanse spirea (Spiraea japonica) is een compacte struik met kleine bladeren en dichte clusters van roze bloemen die uitstekend geschikt is voor lage hagen en borders. Deze struik wordt 80-150 cm hoog en heeft lancetvormige bladeren met platte schermen van kleine roze bloemen die juni-augustus verschijnen en bijen massaal aantrekken.

De bloemen staan in dichte, platte schermen van 8-15 cm doorsnede en variëren van lichtroze tot donkerroze. Veel cultivars hebben gekleurde bladeren - van geel tot rood. Plant heeft compacte groei en bloeit op eenjarig hout. Spierstruik is essentieel voor borders waar compacte bloeiende struiken en bijenvoeding centraal staan.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Waar plaatsen

Japanse spirea stelt geen eisen aan de bodem. Door zijn laagblijvend karakter is deze struik ideaal voor vakbeplanting.

### Cultivars (Soorten)

'Goldflame', met heldergeel blad in het voorjaar, rozerode bloemen, 100 cm; 'Golden Princess', geelbladig, met roze bloemen, 80 cm; 'Genpei' (syn. Shirobana) met roze en witte bloemschermen op éénzelfde plant, tot 50 cm; 'Firelight', donker paarsroze, blad bronskleurig bij uitlopen, groengeel in zomer, 120 cm; 'Anthony Waterer', zeer rijkbloeiend met donkere karmijnrode bloemschermen van juni tot augustus, tot 100 cm.

### Onderhoud

Plant spierstruik in volle zon tot lichte schaduw in normale tuingrond. Plant groeit in vrijwel alle omstandigheden.

Snoei na bloei of in maart door overtollige takken weg te nemen. Plant verdraagt harde snoei voor verjonging.

Water eerste jaar regelmatig. Gevestigde plant is zeer droogteverdragend en onderhoudsarm.
