Deze plant wordt 30-60 cm hoog en heeft fijn verdeelde, blauwgroene bladeren met klaproosachtige bloemen in oranje, geel, roze of wit die mei-september verschijnen. De bloemen hebben vier zijdeachtige bloemblaadjes die 's ochtends openen en 's avonds sluiten, vooral bij bewolkt weer. Plant zaait zich gemakkelijk uit en vormt kleurrijke kolonies. Staat ook bekend als Californische papaver vanwege de klaproosachtige bloemen. Slaapmutsje is perfect voor natuurlijke tuinen waar wilde bloemen en zelfzaai gewenst zijn. Plantdichtheid: 10 - 12 per m² ### Onderhoud Plant slaapmutsje in volle zon in goed doorlatende, schrale grond. Plant verdraagt droogte uitstekend. Zaai direct ter plaatse in voorjaar - plant verplant moeilijk vanwege penwortel. Dunnen indien te dicht. Water zeer spaarzaam - te veel water geeft slappe groei. Laat enkele planten zaad zetten voor zelfzaai. ### Dit wist je nog niet: Eschscholzia californica is staatsplant van Californië en werd vernoemd naar botanicus Johann Friedrich von Eschscholtz.
