# Sierappel

## Malus tschonoskii

Sierappel (Malus sp.) is een kleine tot middelgrote loofvallende boom die 4-8 meter hoog wordt en gewaardeerd wordt om zijn spectaculaire voorjaarsbloei en decoratieve kleine vruchten in de herfst. Deze bomen bloeien rijkelijk in april-mei met bloemen in wit, roze of rood, gevolgd door kleine appeltjes die variëren van geel tot donkerrood.

De vruchten blijven lang aan de boom en zijn geliefd bij vogels. Sierappels hebben verschillende groeiwijzen van zuilvormig tot breed uitgespreid. Veel cultivars zijn geselecteerd op ziekteresistentie tegen schurft en meeldauw. De herfstvruchten zijn meestal te zuur voor menselijke consumptie, maar uitstekend voor vogels. Bladeren kunnen in de herfst geel tot oranje kleuren. Sierappel is perfect voor kleine tuinen en straatbeplanting.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Waar plaatsen

Geschikt voor elk type voedzame, niet te droge bodem.

### Onderhoud

Plant sierappel op zonnige plek in goed doorlatende grond. Kies ziekteresistente cultivars voor minder onderhoud.

Snoei in winter voor vorm en luchtcirculatie. Verwijder waterloten en dode takken regelmatig.

Water jonge bomen tijdens droge periodes. Behandel preventief tegen ziekten indien nodig bij gevoelige cultivars.
