Deze klassieke tuinstruik heeft hartvormige bladeren en bloeit met grote pluimen in wit, roze, paars of lila. De geur is zo karakteristiek dat sering symbool staat voor de lente. Veel cultivars hebben gevulde bloemen. De struik groeit matig snel en vormt uitlopers. Bloeit het rijkelijkst op zonnige plekken. Oude struiken kunnen zeer groot worden en hebben sterke houten stammen. Na bloei vormen zich zaaddozen die best weggenomen worden. Zeer winterhard en kan tientallen jaren oud worden. Sering is essentieel voor klassieke en cottage gardens. Meer zon betekent rijkere bloei. Snoei direct na bloei door oude takken weg te nemen. Verwijder uitlopers voor compacte groei. Water tijdens droge periodes. Verwijder uitgebloeide pluimen voor energie naar groei te leiden. ### Dit wist je nog niet: Sering komt oorspronkelijk uit de Balkan en werd al eeuwenlang gekweekt om zijn onvergetelijke geur en voorjaarsbloei.
