# Schildblad

## Darmera peltata

Schildblad (Darmera peltata) is een imposante oeverplant die 100-150 cm hoog wordt met enorme, ronde bladeren tot 60 cm doorsnee die op lange stelen staan. Deze spectaculaire plant bloeit in april-mei met roze bloemen op kale stelen voordat de bladeren verschijnen. In de herfstkleuren de bladeren prachtig oranje-rood.

De plant vormt dichte kolonies via wortelstokken. De bloemen verschijnen eerst als roze bollen op 120 cm hoge stelen, gevolgd door de iconische schildvormige bladeren. Groeit het beste in vochtige tot natte grond en kan zelfs in ondiep water staan. Zeer winterhard en kan grote oppervlaktes bedekken. De bladeren geven dramatische architecturale effecten. Schildblad is perfect voor grote watertuinen en vijverranden.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Waar plaatsen

Schildblad staat graag op een open plaats met een koele en steeds vochtige bodem in de halfschaduw en de schaduw. Schildblad staat mooi in groep en als oeverbeplanting. Plantdichtheid: 2 - 3 per m²

### Onderhoud

Plant schildblad in volle zon tot halfschaduw in vochtige tot natte grond. Ideaal langs vijvers en beken.

Verwijder oude bladeren in voorjaar. Begrens uitbreiding door wortelstokken weg te nemen indien nodig.

Water regelmatig, houd grond constant vochtig. Geef voorjaarsvoeding voor optimale bladgrootte.
