# Salie

## Salvia nemorosa

Salie (Salvia officinalis) is een aromatisch mediterraan kruid met grijsgroene, fluwelige bladeren en paarse bloemen dat onmisbaar is in de keuken en traditionele geneeskunde. Deze vaste plant wordt 40-80 cm hoog en heeft ovale, zachte bladeren met een intense, kruidige geur en smaak, met bloemen die juni-augustus verschijnen in aren.

De bladeren zijn grijsgroen tot zilvergrijs en hebben een fluwelige textuur door fijne haartjes. Plant heeft houtige basis en kan zeer oud worden. Bloemen zijn meestal paars maar kunnen ook wit of roze zijn en trekken bijen en vlinders aan. Salie is essentieel voor kruidentuinen waar culinaire en medicinale toepassingen centraal staan.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Waar plaatsen

Salie staat graag in de volle zon en heeft de voorkeur naar een standplaats in een border of open plaats met een frisse bodem. Plantdichtheid: 6 - 9 per m²

### Cultivars (Soorten)

S. nemorosa 'Mainacht' is een uitzonderlijk lange bloeier die van mei tot oktober massa's donkerblauwe tot zwartpaarse aren tevoorschijn tovert; De lilablauwe 'Blauhügel' is compacter en blijft lager; 'Ostfriesland' heeft dieppaarse bloemen.

### Onderhoud

Plant salie in volle zon in goed doorlatende, schrale grond. Plant verdraagt geen wateroverlast.

Water spaarzaam - droogte intensiveert smaak. Snoei na bloei om vorm te behouden en houtige groei te voorkomen.

Bescherm tegen strenge vorst. Vervang plant om de 3-4 jaar door verhouting en verminderde smaak.

### Dit wist je nog niet:

Salvia officinalis betekent 'heilzaam' - plant werd beschouwd als panacee in oudheid. 'Waarom zou iemand sterven die salie in zijn tuin heeft?'

Plant is heilig in veel culturen en wordt nog steeds gebruikt voor reiniging en genezing wereldwijd.
