# Rododendron - Dwergsoorten

## Rhododendron sp.

Rhododendron dwergsoorten zijn compacte, wintergroene struiken die 0,5-1,5 meter hoog worden en bloeit rijkelijk met trompetvormige bloemen in wit, roze, rood of paars. Deze zuurminnende struiken hebben leerachtige, donkergroene bladeren en bloeien van april tot juni afhankelijk van de soort.

Populaire dwergsoorten zijn R. yakushimanum en R. impeditum. De struiken hebben ondiepe wortels en groeien het best in zure, humusrijke grond met goede drainage. Veel soorten zijn volledig winterhard, maar hebben beschutting nodig tegen koude wind. Na de bloei vormen zich zaaddozen die best weggenomen worden om energie naar groei te leiden. Rhododendron dwergsoorten zijn perfect voor kleine tuinen en rotstuinen.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Cultivars (Soorten)

De dwergrododendron heeft veel verschillende cultivars. Hieronder een lijst met alle cultivars opgedeeld per kleur met informatie over de hoogte en bloeiperiode. ### Onderhoud

Plant rhododendron in halfschaduw tot schaduw in zure, humusrijke grond. Gebruik rhododendrongrond in potten.

Water regelmatig met zacht water, vermijd uitdroging. Mulch met naaldhout voor zure bodem en vochbehoud.

Verwijder uitgebloeide bloemen voorzichtig. Snoei minimaal, alleen dode takken. Geef speciale rhododendronvoeding.

Rhododendrons komen uit bergachtige gebieden van Azië en werden in de 19e eeuw massaal geïntroduceerd in Europese tuinen.

Dwergsoorten werden ontwikkeld voor kleinere moderne tuinen terwijl ze de spectaculaire bloei behouden.
