Deze snelgroeiende plant wordt 1-2 meter hoog en heeft puntige, gevlamde bladeren die jong het lekkerst zijn. Bloeit met onopvallende groene bloempluimen die best weggenomen worden. Jonge bladeren smaken mild en spinazieachtig, oudere bladeren worden taaier. Zeer gemakkelijk te kweken uit zaad en zaait zichzelf uit. Groeit snel in koele weersomstandigheden. Ook de bloemen zijn eetbaar. Plant heeft hoge sierwaarde door de intense kleur. Rode tuinmelde is perfect voor moestuinen en eetbare sierplanten. Plantdichtheid: 8 - 10 per m² ### Onderhoud Zaai rode tuinmelde in maart-mei direct op plaats in vruchtbare grond. Kiest zonnige tot licht beschaduwde plek. Water regelmatig voor mals blad. Knip bloempluimen weg om bladproductie te stimuleren. Oogst regelmatig jonge bladeren. Laat enkele planten bloeien voor zaadproductie en zelfuitzaai. ### Dit wist je nog niet: Rode tuinmelde werd al in de middeleeuwen gekweekt als bladgroente voordat spinazie populair werd, vooral vanwege de voedingswaarde.
