![ Rode ribes - Groen van bij ons](https://groenvanbijons.staging.novation.website/sites/default/files/public/styles/mobile/public/generated/images/plant/a_321.jpg?itok=bTNLrtb1) ![Plantdetail](#) # Rode ribes ## Ribes sanguineum 'Atrorubens Select' Rode ribes (Ribes rubrum) is een loofvallende struik die 1-1,5 meter hoog wordt en bekendstaat om zijn clusters van rode, doorschijnende bessen in juli-augustus. Deze fruitstruik heeft handvormige, geloofde bladeren en bloeit in het vroege voorjaar met kleine geelgroene bloemen in hangende trossen. De zure bessen zijn uitstekend voor jam, gelei en taarten. De struik is zelfbestuivend, maar geeft hogere opbrengst met meerdere cultivars. Groeit het best in koele, vochtige omstandigheden en verdraagt halfschaduw goed. Jonge takken zijn het meest productief, oude takken worden weggenomen. Zeer winterhard en kan jaren produceren met minimaal onderhoud. Rode ribes is perfect voor moestuinen en eetbare landschappen. Zorg voor een goed doorlatende, voedzame grond en plant de struik in de volle zon tot halfschaduw. ### Cultivars (Soorten) 'Pulborough Scarlet' bloeit in een zee van dieprode bloemen; 'White Icicle' (syn. 'Ubric') heeft zuiver witte bloemtuilen. ### Onderhoud Plant rode ribes op zonnige tot halfschaduwrijke plek in vruchtbare, vochthoudende grond. Mulch voor koele wortelzone. Snoei in winter door oude takken weg te nemen en jonge scheuten te behouden. Water regelmatig tijdens vruchtontwikkeling. Geef in voorjaar compost en organische mest. Bescherm rijpende vruchten tegen vogels met netjes indien nodig. ### Dit wist je nog niet: Rode ribes wordt al eeuwenlang gekweekt in Noord-Europa en was essentieel voor vitamine C voorziening in de winter.
