Deze cultivar van de gewone beuk heeft een brede, ronde kroon en gladde grijze schors. In het voorjaar zijn de jonge bladeren lichtrood, die geleidelijk donkerder worden. De boom draagt kleine onopvallende bloemen in mei, gevolgd door eetbare beukennootjes in stekelige cupules. Groeit langzaam, maar wordt zeer oud en imposant. Heeft ondiepe wortels die oppervlakkig lopen. Kan als solitaire boom of in groepen geplant worden. Zeer winterhard en windbestendig. Rode beuk is perfect als accent boom in grote tuinen en parken. Vermijd verdichte grond. Snoei minimaal, alleen dode takken verwijderen in winter. Behoud natuurlijke vorm voor beste effect. Water jonge bomen tijdens droge periodes. Volwassen exemplaren zijn droogtetolerant.
