# Reuzenkornoelje

## Cornus controversa

Reuzenkornoelle (Cornus controversa) is een imposante loofvallende boom die 15-20 meter hoog kan worden met karakteristieke horizontale takken in etages. Deze sierlijke boom heeft ovale bladeren die in de herfst oranje-rood kleuren en bloeit in juni met crèmewitte schermen van kleine bloemen. Na de bloei verschijnen zwarte bessen die geliefd zijn bij vogels.

De boom heeft een zeer decoratieve, gelaagde groeiwijze die hem onderscheidt van andere kornoelje soorten. Jonge bomen groeien kegelvormig, oudere exemplaren krijgen een brede, platte kroon. De cultuvaar 'Variegata' heeft wit gevlamde bladeren en blijft kleiner. Reuzenkornoelle is perfect als solitaire boom in grote tuinen.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Waar plaatsen

Reuzenkornoelje is niet bodemspecifiek en doet het goed op een plaats in de volle zon, half schaduw en in de schaduw.

### Cultivars (Soorten)

'Variegata' heeft bladeren met een roomwitte rand; 'Pagoda' heeft bladeren die donkergroen en breed elliptisch zijn.

### Onderhoud

Plant reuzenkornoelle op zonnige tot licht beschaduwde plek in vruchtbare, goed doorlatende grond.

Snoei alleen indien noodzakelijk in winter. Behoud de natuurlijke gelaagde vorm voor beste effect.

Water jonge bomen tijdens droge periodes. Volwassen exemplaren zijn droogtetolerant. Geef jaarlijks compost.

Reuzenkornoelle komt oorspronkelijk uit Oost-Azië en werd geïntroduceerd vanwege zijn unieke gelaagde groeiwijze.
