# Pronkklokje

## Enkianthus sp.

Pronkklokje (Enkianthus campanulatus) is een elegante struik met kleine, klokjesvormige bloemen in crème met rode streepjes en spectaculaire herfstverkleuring in oranje en rood. Deze Japanse struik wordt 2-4 meter hoog en heeft ovale bladeren die in kransen rond takken staan met hangende clusters van kleine bloemen in mei.

De bloemen hangen in groepjes van 5-15 stuks en zijn klokachtig met vaak rode adering of rand. Plant heeft een elegante, geëtageerde groeiwijze met bladeren in kransen. In herfst verkleurt bladerwerk spectaculair naar oranje, rood en geel voordat het afvalt. Pronkklokje is perfect voor tuinen waar subtiele bloei en spectaculaire herfstverkleuring gewaardeerd worden.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Waar plaatsen

Plant het pronkklokje in een zurige grond bij de volle zon met de wortels in de schaduw. Ze verkiezen ook een zandgrond of veengrond, ze behoren namelijk tot de heidefamilie.

### Onderhoud

Plant pronkklokje in halfschaduw in zure, humusrijke, goed doorlatende grond. Plant houdt van koele, vochtige omstandigheden.

Snoei alleen indien nodig direct na bloei. Plant heeft van nature elegante vorm. Mulch met bladcompost.

Water regelmatig tijdens droge periodes. Bescherm tegen droge winden. Bemest met zuurminnende plantenvoeding.

### Dit wist je nog niet:

Enkianthus betekent 'gezwollen bloem' vanwijzend naar opgezwollen bloemknoppen. Plant symboliseert elegantie in Japanse cultuur.

Struik groeit langzaam maar kan meer dan 50 jaar oud worden en wordt elk jaar mooier met betere herfstverkleuring.
