# Pimpernel

## Sanguisorba obtusa

Pimpernel (Anagallis arvensis) is een kleine eenjarige plant met vijfbladige bloemen in oranje of blauw die openen bij zonneschijn en sluiten bij bewolking, vandaar de naam 'arme-mans-weerstation'. Deze inheemse plant wordt 10-20 cm hoog en heeft kleine, ovale bladeren met bloemen die slechts 1 cm doorsnede hebben, maar helder gekleurd zijn.

De bloemen openen alleen bij vol zonlicht en sluiten bij naderende regen of 's avonds, wat historisch gebruikt werd als weersvoorspelling. Plant groeit als lage, uitgespreide mat en bloeit mei-september. Na bloei ontwikkelen zich kleine zaadbolletjes die opengaan als deksel. Pimpernel is essentieel voor natuurlijke tuinen waar wilde bloemen en historische plantentradities gewaardeerd worden.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Waar plaatsen

Pimpernel doet het goed in de volle zon of halfschaduw. De plant doet het goed op elke goed doorlatende, vochthoudende, voedselrijke tuingrond. Plantdichtheid: 4 - 7 per m²

### Cultivars (Soorten)

S. obtusa 'Alba' heeft witte bloemen; 'Red Thunder' bloeit rood.

### Onderhoud

Plant pimpernel in volle zon in normale tuingrond. Plant groeit het best in open, niet-bemeste omstandigheden.

Laat plant zichzelf uitzaaien voor natuurlijke verspreiding. Bloemen sluiten bij bewolking - dit is normaal gedrag.

Water alleen bij extreme droogte. Geen bemesting nodig - plant groeit het best in schrale omstandigheden.

Anagallis werd door Grieken en Romeinen gebruikt als geneeskruid tegen melancholie. Plant symboliseert hoop en optimisme.

Moderne weersvoorspelling is betrouwbaarder, maar pimpernel blijft fascinerend voorbeeld van plantaanpassing aan weer.
