Deze boom wordt 8-15 meter hoog en heeft ovale bladeren met getande rand die in herfst een van de mooiste kleurshows bieden van alle bomen. De boom bloeit vroeg in voorjaar met kleine rode bloemen zonder bloemblaadjes voordat bladeren uitkomen. Schors bladert af in grote stukken en toont een patroon van grijs, bruin en groen. Hij staat graag op een plaatsje in de ochtendzon en is niet bodemspecifiek. ### Cultivars (Soorten) Parrotia persica 'Vanessa' is een meer opgaande vorm. Dit dicht, compact boompje is beter geschikt voor kleinere ruimtes. ### Onderhoud Plant Perzisch ijzerhout in volle zon tot lichte schaduw in goed doorlatende grond. Boom groeit in verschillende grondsoorten. Minimale snoei nodig - alleen dode takken en vormcorrecties. Respecteer natuurlijke groeiwijze met meerdere stammen. Water eerste jaren regelmatig. Gevestigde boom is redelijk droogteverdragend. Bemest licht in voorjaar. ### Dit wist je nog niet: Parrotia persica komt uit Iran en Kaukasus en kan meer dan 200 jaar oud worden. Plant is verwant aan toverhazelaar.
