# Pecannoot

## Carya illinoensis

Pecannoot (Carya illinoinensis) is een grote loofvallende boom die 20-30 meter hoog kan worden en bekend staat om zijn eetbare noten. Deze Noord-Amerikaanse boom heeft samengestelde bladeren met 9-17 deelblaadjes die in de herfst goudgeel kleuren. De boom bloeit in het voorjaar met onopvallende katjes en produceert ovale noten in groene doppen. Voor succesvolle notenproductie zijn meestal twee bomen nodig voor kruisbestuiving.

De boom groeit langzaam, maar wordt zeer oud. Jonge bomen produceren na 5-10 jaar de eerste noten. De noten rijpen in de herfst en vallen uit de spleetende doppen. Zeer winterhard en droogtetolerant eens gevestigd. Pecannoot is ideaal voor grote tuinen en als erfboom.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Waar plaatsen

Zet pecannoot op een zonnige plaats met een goed doorlatende, vochthoudende bodem.

### Onderhoud

Plant pecannoot op zonnige, beschutte plek in diepe, vruchtbare grond. Boom heeft veel ruimte nodig voor ontwikkeling.

Water jonge bomen regelmatig. Volwassen bomen zijn droogtetolerant. Mulch rond stambasis voor vochtbehoud.

Snoei minimaal, alleen dode takken verwijderen in winter. Geef jaarlijks compost. Oogst noten wanneer doppen openen.

### Dit wist je nog niet:

Pecannoten werden al door inheemse Amerikaanse volkeren gekweekt en zijn de staatsnoot van Texas. In Europa worden ze steeds populairder.
