Deze boom wordt 20-30 meter hoog en heeft diep gelobde bladeren met ronde vruchten die in groepjes aan de boom hangen. De bladeren zijn groot en hebben 5-7 diepe lobben, groter en dieper ingesneden dan gewone plataan. Schors bladert af in grote plakken en toont een patroon van groen, grijs en beige. Vruchten hangen als ronde ballen aan lange stelen en blijven lang aan boom hangen. Oosterse plataan is essentieel voor grote landschapstuinen waar monumentale bomen en interessante schorspatronen gewenst zijn. Boom heeft veel ruimte nodig voor ontwikkeling. Snoei jonge boom voor goede kroonstructuur. Oudere bomen hebben minimale snoei nodig. Respecteer natuurlijke vorm. Water regelmatig eerste jaren. Gevestigde boom is redelijk droogteverdragend. Geef ruimte voor grote afmetingen. ### Dit wist je nog niet: Oosterse plataan is een van oudste gecultiveerde bomen en werd al door oude Grieken geplant. Symboliseert wijsheid en eeuwigheid. Beroemde Griekse filosoof Plato onderwees onder een plataan.
