# Ooievaarsbek (macrorrhizum)

## Geranium macrorrhizum

Ooievaarsbek macrorrhizum (Geranium macrorrhizum) is een aromatische bodembedekker met handvormige bladeren en roze bloemen die zich krachtig verspreidt en uitstekende bodembedekking biedt in schaduw waar weinig anders groeit. Deze wintergroene plant wordt 30-40 cm hoog en heeft diep gelobde bladeren die intensief geuren bij aanraking.

De bladeren zijn semi-wintergroen en verkleuren spectaculair in herfst naar rood en oranje voordat ze afvallen. Bloemen zijn roze tot magenta en verschijnen mei-juli boven het aromatische bladerwerk. Plant verspreidt zich via dikke wortelstokken en vormt dichte kolonies. Ooievaarsbek macrorrhizum is essentieel voor moeilijke schaduwplekken waar sterke bodembedekking en geur gewaardeerd worden.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Waar plaatsen

Ooievaarsbek verkiest een plaats in de volle zon of halfschaduw, maar hij groeit ook in de schaduw. Hij groeit op iedere goed doorlaatbare, niet te vruchtbare bodem.​Plantdichtheid: 4 - 7 per m²

### Cultivars (Soorten)

G. macrorrhizum 'Spessart' blijft lager (tot 25 cm) en bloeit zeer zachtroze tot wit; 'Bevan's Variety' bloeit met donkerroze bloemen.

### Onderhoud

Plant ooievaarsbek macrorrhizum in elke lichtconditie in vrijwel elke grondsoort. Plant is extreem aanpassingsvermogend.

Beheers uitbreiding door overtollige delen weg te nemen. Plant kan dominant worden in kleine tuinen.

Geen verzorging nodig eens gevestigd - plant is volkomen zelfvoorzienend. Water alleen bij extreme droogte.

Geranium macrorrhizum komt uit Zuid-Europa en wordt ook 'grote wortel' genoemd vanwege dikke wortelstokken.
