# Munt

## Mentha sp.

Munt (Mentha) is een aromatisch kruid met vierkante stengels, getande bladeren en een karakteristieke frisse geur die onmisbaar is in keukentuin en drankenbereiding. Deze vaste plant wordt 30-90 cm hoog en verspreidt zich krachtig via worteluitlopers met kleine paarse, roze of witte bloemen in aren aan stengeluiteinden.

De bladeren bevatten menthololie die de kenmerkende frisse smaak en geur geeft. Er bestaan talloze soorten en cultivars met verschillende aroma's zoals peper-, appel-, chocolade- en citroenmunt. Plant bloeit zomer-herfst met bloemen die bijen aantrekken. Munt is essentieel voor kruidentuinen waar culinaire kruiden en geur centraal staan.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Waar plaatsen

Ijzersterke plant die op elke plek overleeft. Hij groeit goed in volle grond en doet het ook prima in een pot of kruidenbak. Plantdichtheid: 3 per m²

### Cultivars (Soorten)

Mentha spicata var. crispa 'Moroccan' is de lekkerste munt om thee te zetten; Mentha rotundifolia 'Variegata', met witgevlekt blad, is erg decoratief; Mentha longifolia Buddleia heeft een mooi grijs blad en wordt 80 cm hoog met lilaroze bloemen.

### Onderhoud

Plant munt in halfschaduw tot zon in vochtige grond. Beheers uitbreiding door plant in pot of met wortelbarrière te kweken.

Oogst bladeren regelmatig voor keukengebruik. Knip bloemen weg voor meer bladgroei tenzij bloei voor bijen gewenst is.

Water regelmatig - munt houdt van vochtige grond. Verdeel pollen jaarlijks voor verjonging.

Munt wordt al duizenden jaren gebruikt voor geneeskunde en keuken. Romeinen gebruikten munt bij banketten voor vertering.
