# Moerascipres

## Taxodium distichum

Moerascipres (Taxodium distichum) is een majestueuze loofverliezende conifeer met vederlichte naalden die in herfst oranje-bruin verkleuren voordat ze afvallen, uniek onder conifers. Deze Amerikaanse boom wordt 20-35 meter hoog en heeft een kegelvormige kroon met zachte, geveerde naalden die tegenover de takken staan.

Plant is een van de weinige conifers die zijn naalden laat vallen in herfst na spectaculaire verkleuring. In moerassige omstandigheden ontwikkelt boom karakteristieke 'knieën' - wortelopzetten die boven water uitsteken. Stam heeft vaak een verdikt ondereind. Moerascipres is essentieel voor grote watertuinen waar monumentale bomen met seizoensverandering gewenst zijn.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Waar plaatsen

Plant de ​moerascipres op een beschutte plaats met een vochtige bodem, in volle zon of halfschaduw.

### Onderhoud

Plant moerascipres in volle zon in vochtige tot natte grond. Boom groeit zowel in water als normale tuingrond.

Geen snoei nodig - boom heeft van nature mooie vorm. Water regelmatig eerste jaren.

Geef ruimte voor uiteindelijke grootte. Boom groeit langzaam, maar wordt zeer groot en oud.

### Dit wist je nog niet:

Moerascipres kan meer dan 1000 jaar oud worden. Hout is zeer rot-resistent en werd gebruikt voor dakspanen.

In Louisiana groeien exemplaren van meer dan 1700 jaar oud. Boom is symbool van Zuid-Amerikaanse moeraslanden.
