# Mijterloof

## Tellima grandiflora

Mijterloof (Galium odoratum) is een inheemse bodembedekker met sterretjes van bladeren en kleine witte bloemen die een zoete geur verspreiden en traditioneel gebruikt wordt voor maitrank. Deze schaduwplant wordt 15-25 cm hoog en heeft smalle bladeren in kranzen van 6-8 stuks rond de stengel met kleine, witte, stervormige bloemen in mei-juni.

De plant verspreidt zich via ondergrondse uitlopers en vormt dichte tapijten in schaduw waar weinig anders groeit. Gedroogde bladeren ruiken naar vers gemaaid hooi door cumarine en worden traditioneel gebruikt om dranken te parfumeren. Plant is semi-wintergroen. Mijterloof is essentieel voor natuurlijke schaduwtuinen waar inheemse bodembedekking en historische kruiden gewaardeerd worden.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Waar plaatsen

Mijterloof stelt weinig eisen aan de bodem, zolang de bodem goed doorlatend is en de standplaats niet iets natter, groeit hij goed. Het is een schaduwplant die goed vertoeft als onderbeplanting van bomen en hogere struiken. Plantdichtheid: 7 - 10 per m²

### Cultivars (Soorten)

T. grandiflora 'Purpurteppich' heeft donkergroene bladeren met purperen schakering en roze bloemen.

### Onderhoud

Plant mijterloof in halfschaduw tot diepe schaduw in vochtige, humusrijke grond. Plant groeit het best in bosachtige omstandigheden.

Geen onderhoud nodig - plant zorgt voor zichzelf. Beheers uitbreiding door overtollige delen weg te nemen.

Water alleen bij extreme droogte. Mulch met bladmateriaal om natuurlijke bosomstandigheden na te bootsen.

### Dit wist je nog niet:

Mijterloof wordt ook 'lieve vrouwebedstroo' genoemd. Plant werd traditie gebruikt als matrassenproppen vanwege geur.

In Duitsland wordt mijterloof nog steeds gebruikt voor traditionele maitrank (maibowle) tijdens voorjaarsfeesten.
