# Magnolia

## Magnolia sp.

Magnolia is een spectaculaire bloeiende boom of struik met grote, geurende bloemen die vroeg in voorjaar verschijnen voordat bladeren uitkomen en symbool staan voor voorjaarsherrijs. Deze oude plantenfamilie wordt 3-25 meter hoog afhankelijk van soort en heeft bloemen van 8-30 cm doorsnede in wit, roze, paars of geel.

De bloemen hebben dikke, vlezige bloemblaadjes en verschijnen meestal voor de bladeren, wat een spectaculair effect geeft. Na bloei ontwikkelen zich grote, ovale bladeren en later kegelvormige vruchten met rode zaden. Magnolia's kunnen honderden jaren oud worden. Magnolia is essentieel voor tuinen waar vroege voorjaarsdrama en geur centraal staan.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Waar plaatsen

Magnolia doet het goed op een zandige bodem die wat zuur is, in volle zon of halfschaduw.

### Cultivars (Soorten)

Magnolia kobus, de Noordjapanse magnolia, bloeit met witte, geurende, alleenstaande, stervormige bloemen die verschijnen voor de bladeren.

### Onderhoud

Plant magnolia op beschutte plek in zon tot lichte schaduw in vochtige, humusrijke, goed doorlatende grond.

Snoei alleen indien noodzakelijk direct na bloei. Magnolia's herstellen slecht van snoei en bloeden sterk.

Water regelmatig vooral eerste jaren. Mulch rond boom voor koele wortels. Bescherm tegen late nachtvorst tijdens bloei.
