# Lork

## Larix decidua

Lork (Larix decidua) is een imposante loofvallende naaldboom met zachte, lichtgroene naalden die in de herfst prachtig goudgeel verkleuren voordat ze vallen. Deze snelgroeiende boom wordt 20-40 meter hoog en heeft een kegelvormige kroon die met de jaren breder wordt.

De kegeltjes zijn klein en staan rechtop op de takken. De zachte naalden verschijnen in het voorjaar frisgroen en ontwikkelen zich tot een volle kroon. In de herfstkleuren ze spectaculair goudgeel voordat ze vallen - uniek onder de naaldbomen. Jonge bomen hebben een regelmatige kegelvorm, oudere exemplaren ontwikkelen een meer onregelmatige kroon. Lork is perfect voor grote tuinen waar een solitaire boom ruimte heeft om zich te ontwikkelen.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Waar plaatsen

Groeit het liefst in losse, vruchtbare grond zoals leem, en vooral niet in zure grond. Heeft veel licht en ruimte nodig. Goed bestand tegen vorst en hitte. De lork past goed als solitair in een park of een grote tuin.

### Cultivars (Soorten)

De Japanse larix (Larix kaempferi) groeit sneller en losser en kan ook als haag aangeplant worden; 'Pendula' is een treurvorm, tot 5 meter hoog, voor een wat kleinere tuin.

### Onderhoud

Plant lork op een zonnige tot licht beschaduwde standplaats in goed doorlatende, vochtige grond. Plant verdraagt verschillende grondsoorten maar niet te droge omstandigheden.

Snoei alleen indien noodzakelijk in de winterperiode. Laat de boom zijn natuurlijke vorm behouden.

Water jonge bomen tijdens droge periodes. Volwassen exemplaren zijn zeer winterhard en onderhoudsarm.

Lork is van oudsher belangrijk in de Alpiene bosbouw en wordt gewaardeerd om zijn duurzame hout. In tuinen wordt hij vooral gekozen om zijn unieke herfstkleur.

De boom symboliseert veerkracht en vernieuwing door zijn jaarlijkse cyclus van kaal worden en opnieuw uitlopen.
