# Liguster

## Ligustrum vulgare 'Lodense'

Liguster (Ligustrum) is een veelzijdige wintergroene of half-wintergroene struik met kleine, leerachtige bladeren en witte bloemen in dichte pluimen die uitstekend geschikt is voor hagen van formeel tot natuurlijk. Deze snelgroeiende plant wordt 1-4 meter hoog en heeft ovale bladeren die bij sommige soorten het hele jaar groen blijven.

De geurende witte bloemen verschijnen juni-juli in dichte, kegelvormige pluimen en trekken bijen massaal aan. Na bloei ontwikkelen zich zwarte bessen die belangrijk voedsel zijn voor vogels. Plant verdraagt snoei uitstekend en vormt dichte hagen. Liguster is essentieel voor betrouwbare hagen waar snelle groei en goede snoeiverdraagzaamheid gewenst zijn.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Waar plaatsen

De liguster 'Lodense' is een makkelijke plant met weinig eisen aan de bodem. Het wortelgestel is fijn en sterk vertakt en groeit oppervlakkig. Traaggroeiend. Bestand tegen (zee)wind.

### Cultivars (Soorten)

L. ovalifolium wordt minder hoog en groeit breder, met ronder blad en onschadelijke bessen. Wordt vaak aangeplant voor hagen; L. obtusifolium 'Massif' is ijzersterk en houdt het op elke plek uit, ook in zeewind; L. japonicum 'Green Century' is geschikt voor korte hagen; L. vulgare is een semi wintergroene ligustrum die matig groeit en tot 3 m hoog wordt.

### Onderhoud

Plant liguster in volle zon tot schaduw in normale tuingrond. Plant is zeer aanpassingsvermogend en groeit vrijwel overal.

Snoei 2-3 keer per jaar voor haagvorming. Plant verdraagt zware snoei goed en groeit krachtig na.

Water eerste jaren regelmatig. Gevestigde hagen zijn zeer droogteverdragend. Bemesting meestal niet nodig.

Liguster ondersteunt vele vlinder- en vogelsoorten. Bloemen zijn belangrijke nectarbron en bessen voeden overwinterende vogels.

Plant wordt al eeuwen gebruikt voor hagen en topiary vanwege uitstekende snoeiverdraagzaamheid en snelle groei.
