# Leverkruid

## Eupatorium maculatum 'Atropurpurea'

Leverkruid (Hepatica nobilis) is een vroege voorjaarsbloemer met drielobbige, leerachtige bladeren die lijken op een lever en delicate bloemen in blauw, wit of roze die verschijnen voordat nieuwe bladeren uitkomen. Deze inheemse schaduwplant wordt 10-15 cm hoog en bloeit maart-april met bloemen die enkele dagen aanhouden en gevolgd worden door nieuw, fris groen bladerwerk.

De bloemen hebben 6-10 bloemblaadjes en verschijnen direct uit de wortelstok voordat het nieuwe bladerwerk verschijnt. Oude bladeren blijven groen onder de sneeuw en sterven pas af als nieuwe bladeren uitkomen. Plant groeit zeer langzaam vanuit een knolvormige wortelstok. Leverkruid is essentieel voor schaduwrijke voorjaarstuin waar vroege bloei en inheemse zeldzaamheden gewaardeerd worden.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Waar plaatsen

Plant leverkruid op een iets vochtigere plaats. Deze plant is zeer geschikt voor verwildering. Plantdichtheid: 1 - 3 per m²

### Onderhoud

Plant leverkruid in diepe schaduw in kalkrijke, humusrijke grond die niet uitdroogt. Voeg bladcompost toe aan plantgat.

Verstoor plant zo min mogelijk - groeit extreem langzaam en herstelt moeilijk van schade. Mulch met bladmateriaal.

Water tijdens droge periodes maar voorkom wateroverlast. Geen bemesting - plant houdt van stabiele, natuurlijke omstandigheden.

Leverkruid werd historisch gebruikt als geneesmiddel voor leverklachten vanwege de vorm van bladeren (signatuurleer).

Plant is gastheer voor zeldzame vlindersoorten en belangrijk voor bosecosysteem. Beschermd in veel natuurgebieden.
