# Lagerstroemia

## Lagerstroemia indica

Lagerstroemia (Lagerstroemia indica) is een elegante boom uit Azië met opvallende bloemen in dichte pluimen van gekrulde bloemblaadjes in wit, roze, rood of paars die de hele zomer lang de tuin opfleuren. Deze warmteminnende boom wordt 3-6 meter hoog en heeft gladde, afbladderende schors die decoratieve patronen vormt.

De bloemen hebben gekrulde bloemblaadjes die lijken op kreukelpapier en verschijnen van juli tot september in grote, dichte trossen. Na bloei ontwikkelen zich ronde zaaddozen. Plant heeft kleine, ovale bladeren die in herfst oranje tot rood verkleuren. Lagerstroemia is perfect voor mediterrane tuinen waar exotische bloei en warmte-tolerantie gewenst zijn.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Waar plaatsen

Geef een plek uit de wind, op het warmste plekje van het terras. Zorg dat lagerstroemia in de winter droog staat. Plantdichtheid: 1 per m²

### Cultivars (Soorten)

Baton Rouge (roze-rood, 150 cm); Cordon Bleu (lila, 100 cm); World's Fair (rood, 60 - 100 cm); x Hopi (roze, 300 cm) en Pink Velours (roze, 360 cm) behoren tot de mooiste en sterkste voor ons klimaat.

### Onderhoud

Plant lagerstroemia in volle zon op warme, beschutte plek in goed doorlatende grond. Boom heeft veel warmte nodig voor bloei.

Snoei in maart door takken terug te knippen tot gewenste vorm. Plant bloeit op nieuw hout dus snoei bevordert bloei.

Water regelmatig tijdens droge periodes. Bescherm jonge planten tegen vorst. Bemest in voorjaar voor optimale bloei.

### Dit wist je nog niet:

Lagerstroemia wordt ook 'kreukelbloem' of 'aapjesnaboom' genoemd vanwege de gladde schors. Boom symboliseert elegantie in Azië.

In warme klimaten kan lagerstroemia meer dan 100 jaar oud worden. Plant wordt steeds populairder in Europa door klimaatverandering.
