# Kweepeer

## Cydonia oblonga

Kweepeer (Cydonia oblonga) is een historische fruitboom met grote, roze bloemen in mei en goudgele, geurende vruchten die uitstekend geschikt zijn voor jam en gelei. Deze kleine boom wordt 3-5 meter hoog en heeft ovale bladeren die in herfst geel verkleuren, gevolgd door grote, wollige vruchten die intens geuren.

De bloemen verschijnen laat in voorjaar en zijn groter dan appel- of perenbloemen. Vruchten zijn hard en wrang rauw, maar ontwikkelen een heerlijke geur en smaak bij verwerking. Plant heeft een pittoreske, grillige groeiwijze die charme toevoegt aan tuinen. Kweepeer is essentieel voor historische tuinen waar oude fruitsoorten en culinaire traditie gewaardeerd worden.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Waar plaatsen

De kweepeer is niet bodemspecifiek en gedijt in zure, neutrale en licht kalkhoudende bodems. Hij wordt best aangeplant in een goed doorlaatbare, matig vruchtbare grond. Hij houdt niet van directe zeewind.

### Onderhoud

Plant kweepeer in volle zon tot lichte schaduw in vochtige, voedselrijke grond. Boom groeit in verschillende grondsoorten.

Snoei in winter voor vorm en luchtige kroon. Verwijder waterloten en kruisende takken voor gezonde groei.

Water regelmatig tijdens droge periodes. Bescherm rijpende vruchten tegen vogels. Oogst voor eerste vorst.
