# Klimhortensia

## Hydrangea anomala subsp. petiolaris

Klimhortensia (Hydrangea anomala petiolaris) is een zelfhechtende klimplant met hartvormige bladeren en platte schermen van witte bloemen in juni, perfect voor het beklimmen van muren en schuttingen in schaduwrijke hoeken. Deze sterke klimmer wordt 8-15 meter hoog en heeft luchtwortels waarmee hij zich aan oppervlakken vasthecht zonder beschadiging.

De bloemen bestaan uit kleine vruchtbare bloemen in het midden omringd door grote, steriele bloemen die maandenlang mooi blijven. Plant groeit langzaam de eerste jaren, maar wordt daarna zeer krachtig. De schors bladert decoratief af in winter. Klimhortensia is essentieel voor schaduwrijke verticale beplanting waar zelfhechtende klimplanten met bloeiwaarde gewenst zijn.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Waar plaatsen

Verlangt een plek in vruchtbare grond in de halfschaduw, tegen een muur of schutting. Kan ook prima als bodembedekker, maar hij wordt dan wel 1 meter hoog. Doet het goed tegen een beschaduwde muur of langs een schuttingen. De eerste jaren vereist de plant steun, daarna klimt hij zelf verder met zijn wortels. Plantdichtheid: 1 per m²

### Cultivars (Soorten)

Brookside Littleleaf is een miniversie voor kleine muren; Schizophragma integrifolium heeft alle kenmerken van de klimhortensia maar bloeit rijker en wordt minder hoog. Het hartvormige blad is eleganter, met een grijze schijn. Je hebt er ook met lichtroze bloemen.

### Onderhoud

Plant klimhortensia in halfschaduw in vochtige, humusrijke grond tegen noordmuur of oostmuur. Plant verdraagt diepe schaduw.

Geen snoei nodig eerste jaren - plant moet zich vestigen. Later alleen vorm-correcties mogelijk in winter.

Water regelmatig, vooral tijdens droge periodes. Mulch wortelzone om vocht vast te houden. Bemest jaarlijks met compost.

### Dit wist je nog niet:

Klimhortensia komt uit Azië en is een van de weinige hortensia's die goed klimt. Plant kan meer dan 50 jaar oud worden.

In winter is de afbladderende schors decoratief en geven de lege bloeschermen interessante structuur aan kale muren.
