# Judaspenning

## Lunaria sp.

Judaspenning (Lunaria annua) is een tweejaarige plant die bekend staat om zijn papierachtige, ronde zaden die lijken op zilveren muntjes en uitstekend geschikt zijn voor droogbloemen. Deze plant bloeit in het tweede jaar met paarse of witte bloemen in mei-juni, gevolgd door de karakteristieke platte, ronde peulen.

De plant wordt 60-90 cm hoog en heeft hartvormige bladeren. Na bloei ontwikkelen zich groene peulen die rijpen tot bruine schillen. Wanneer deze afvallen, blijven de zilveren, papierachtige tussenschotten over die maandenlang decoratief blijven. Judaspenning is essentieel voor cottage gardens en natuurlijke tuinen waar zelfzaaiende planten en droogbloemen gewaardeerd worden.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Waar plaatsen

De judaspenning kan op alle grondsoorten overleven, maar de bodem moet wel vochtig zijn. Hij staat het best in de halfschaduw en mag enkele uren in de volle zon staan.

### Onderhoud

Zaai judaspenning in herfst of vroeg voorjaar in halfschaduw in goed doorlatende grond. Plant groeit in verschillende grondsoorten.

Laat plant zelf zaad zetten voor volgende generatie. Verwijder enkele zaadpeulen voor droogbloemen, laat andere staan.

Water tijdens droge periodes eerste jaar. Plant is daarna zelfvoorzienend en komt jaar na jaar terug uit zaad.

### Dit wist je nog niet:

Judaspenning wordt ook 'zilverblad' of 'maanviool' genoemd vanwege de zilveren zaadschermen. Plant wordt al eeuwen gekweekt voor droogbloemen.

In bloemensymboliek staat judaspenning voor eerlijkheid en oprechtheid vanwege de 'transparante' zaadschermen.
