# Japanse notenboom

## Ginkgo biloba

Japanse notenboom (Juglans ailantifolia) is een snelgroeiende boom met grote, samengestelde bladeren en harde noten die lijken op walnoten, maar dikker zijn en in clusters groeien. Deze brede boom wordt 15-20 meter hoog en heeft karakteristieke geveerde bladeren met 11-17 blaadjes die in herfst goudgeel verkleuren.

De boom bloeit in mei met hangende mannelijke katjes en kleine vrouwelijke bloemen, gevolgd door groene vruchten die in herfst rijpen tot harde noten. Japanse walnoten zijn eetbaar maar moeilijker te kraken dan gewone walnoten vanwege de zeer harde schaal. Japanse notenboom is perfect voor grote tuinen en parkachtige beplanting waar schaduw en nuttige vruchten gewenst zijn.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Waar plaatsen

De Japanse notenboom doet het goed op iedere niet te natte grond en heeft voorkeur naar een zonnige standplaats.

### Cultivars (Soorten)

'Mariken' heeft vrij grote, half cirkelvormige bladeren en een zeer dichte, platte tot bolvormige groeiwijze; 'Princeton Sentry' heeft een langzaam groeiende cultivar met een smal, opgaande groeiwijze en is een mannelijke cultivar waardoor hij geen bloemen draagt; 'Tremonia' is een uitstekende zuilvormige cultivar van de Japanse notenboom, met rechtopgaande takken. Wordt zelfs volwassen niet breder dan 80 cm; 'Globus' is een bolvorm op stam.

### Onderhoud

Plant Japanse notenboom in volle zon in diepe, vochtige, voedselrijke grond. Boom heeft veel ruimte nodig voor kroonuitbreiding.

Snoei jonge bomen voor goede kroonopbouw in winter. Oudere bomen hebben minimale snoei nodig. Let op sap dat uit snijwonden loopt.

Water regelmatig eerste jaren voor goede vestiging. Gevestigde bomen zijn redelijk droogteverdragend. Geef ruimte - kroon wordt breed.

### Dit wist je nog niet:

Japanse notenboom wordt ook 'heartnut' genoemd vanwege de hartvorm van de nootkernen. Boom is winterharder dan gewone walnoot.

In Japan worden de noten traditioneel gebruikt in zoetigheden. Boom produceert al noten op 4-5 jarige leeftijd.
