# Japanse kornoelje

## Cornus kousa

Japanse kornoelje (Cornus kousa) is een elegante kleine boom met spectaculaire witte 'bloemen' in juni die eigenlijk gekleurde schutbladeren zijn, gevolgd door eetbare, framboosachtige vruchten en prachtige herfstverkleuring. Deze veelzijdige boom wordt 6-10 meter hoog en heeft ovale bladeren die in herfst oranje tot rood verkleuren.

De vier grote witte schutbladeren omringen de kleine echte bloemen en creëren een indrukwekkend bloeibeeld dat wekenlang aanhoudt. Na bloei ontwikkelen zich roze-rode vruchten die lijken op lychees en eetbaar zijn, hoewel de smaak mild is. Japanse kornoelje is perfect voor kleine tuinen waar een boom meerdere seizoenen interesse moet bieden.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Waar plaatsen

De Japanse kornoelje doet het goed op alle grondsoorten. Plant de boom op een zonnige plek. Hij is gevoelig voor wind en heeft voldoende ruimte nodig om uit te groeien als solitair.

### Onderhoud

Plant Japanse kornoelje in halfschaduw tot zon in zure, humusrijke grond. Boom groeit langzaam maar ontwikkelt mooie kroonvorm.

Minimale snoei - alleen dode takken wegknippen. Boom heeft natuurlijk elegante vorm. Snoei in winter om bloeding te vermijden.

Water regelmatig eerste jaren. Mulch wortelzone met organisch materiaal. Geef zure bemesting indien grond te alkalisch is.

### Dit wist je nog niet:

Japanse kornoelje is resistenter tegen kornoelje-ziekte dan Amerikaanse soorten. Boom kan meer dan 100 jaar oud worden.

In Azië worden de vruchten traditioneel gebruikt in desserts. Boom wordt steeds populairder als alternatief voor gevoelige soorten.
