# Japanse kardinaalsmuts

## Euonymus japonicus 'Robustus'

Japanse kardinaalsmuts (Euonymus alatus) is een compacte struik die beroemd is om zijn spektaculaire herfstverkleuring waarbij de bladeren felrood tot magenta kleuren. Deze langzaam groeiende struik wordt 1,5-2,5 meter hoog en heeft karakteristieke gevleugelde takken die het hele jaar interessante structuur geven.

De kleine, ovale bladeren zijn onopvallend gedurende het seizoen, maar transformeren in herfst tot een van de meest opvallende kleurdisplays in de tuin. Na bladval blijven de gevleugelde takken zichtbaar en geven winterinteresse aan de tuin. Japanse kardinaalsmuts is essentieel voor tuinen waar spectaculaire herfstkleur de hoofdattractie vormt.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Waar plaatsen

Plant Japanse kardinaalsmuts op een plaats in de zon tot halfschaduw. De plant groeit op vrijwel elke grond, maar op een vruchtbare grond groeit hij het best. De bodem dient goed doorlatend, niet te droog maar ook niet te nat te zijn.

### Cultivars (Soorten)

'Ovatus Aureus' heeft ovale helgele bladeren, die later verkleuren naar groengeel met een brede, gele rand.

### Onderhoud

Plant Japanse kardinaalsmuts in volle zon tot halfschaduw voor beste herfstkleur. Plant groeit in verschillende grondsoorten, maar kleurt het best in de zon.

Minimale snoei nodig - plant heeft natuurlijk compacte vorm. Alleen dode of kruisende takken wegknippen in winter.

Water regelmatig eerste jaren. Gevestigde planten zijn droogteverdragend en onderhoudsarm. Geen bemesting nodig.

### Dit wist je nog niet:

Japanse kardinaalsmuts wordt ook 'burning bush' genoemd vanwege de vuurrode herfstkleur. Plant wordt zeer oud en vraagt minimaal onderhoud.

De gevleugelde takken maken deze struik uniek onder heesters en geven interessante wintersilhouetten in kale tuinen.
