Deze langzaam groeiende struik blijft laag (50-120 cm) en vormt dichte, ronde vormen die het hele jaar structuur geven. De bloemen zijn kleiner dan bij loofvallende azalea's, maar verschijnen in zulke aantallen dat de struik volledig in kleur verdwijnt. Na bloei behouden de glanzende bladeren hun decoratieve waarde en geven wintergroene structuur aan schaduwrijke borders. Japanse azalea is perfect voor kleine tuinen en Japans geïnspireerde tuinontwerpen waar wintergroene compactheid met spectaculaire bloei gewenst is. Voeg zure potgrond toe als tuingrond te alkalisch is. Water met regenwater of zacht water - azalea's zijn gevoelig voor kalk. Mulch met naaldhoutcompost om zuurgraad te behouden. Snoei spaarzaam direct na bloei. Bemest in voorjaar met speciale azaleavoeding. Bescherm tegen koude oostenwinden. ### Dit wist je nog niet: Japanse azalea's zijn symbool van gematigdheid en voorzichtigheid in Japanse cultuur. Ze worden veel gebruikt in traditionele Japanse tuinen. Moderne cultivars zijn vaak hybriden tussen verschillende Japanse soorten.
