Deze Zuid-Afrikaanse plant wordt 60-150 cm hoog en bloeit van juli tot oktober met dichte bloemen in warme tinten oranje, rood, geel of crème. De bloemen openen geleidelijk van onder naar boven in de are, waarbij ze van kleur kunnen veranderen - vaak van rood bovenaan naar geel onderaan. Dit geeft het karakteristieke 'vuurpijl' effect. Plant vormt dichte pollen grassachtig bladerwerk. Huzarenknoop is perfect voor moderne tuinen en prairie-aanplantingen waar dramatische verticale accenten gewenst zijn. Plantdichtheid: 4 - 6 per m² ### Onderhoud Plant huzarenknoop in volle zon in goed doorlatende grond. Plant verdraagt droogte goed maar heeft goede drainage nodig tegen wateroverlast. Knip uitgebloeide aren weg voor nieuwe bloei. Laat bladeren staan tot voorjaar voor winterbescherming van wortelzone. Mulch wortelzone in winter tegen vorst. Bemest in voorjaar met compost. Verdeel pollen om de 4-5 jaar voor verjonging. ### Dit wist je nog niet: Huzarenknoop trekt kolibries aan in oorspronkelijke habitat en is hier geliefd bij vlinders en bijen. Bloemen zijn uitstekend voor snijbloemen. Plant is vernoemd naar botanicus Johann Hieronymus Kniphof.
