# Hosta - Hartlelie

## Hosta sp.

Hosta, ook bekend als hartlelie, is een onmisbare schaduwplant met decoratieve bladeren in talloze vormen, maten en kleuren van groen tot blauw, geel en bont. Deze vaste plant vormt imposante pollen van 20 cm tot 120 cm hoog en bloeit in zomer met elegante witte of lavendelkleurige bloemen op hoge stengels.

De bladeren variëren van kleine hartvormige blaadjes tot reusachtige, gegolfde exemplaren van 40 cm lang. Sommige soorten hebben geurende bloemen die 's avonds het sterkst geuren. Hosta's zijn de perfecte structuurplanten voor schaduwrijke borders. Hosta is essentieel voor schaduwtuinen waar architecturale bladplanten en onderhoudsarme schoonheid gewenst zijn.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Cultivars (Soorten)

'Big Daddy' is een forse plant met kenmerkende grote hartvormige blauwe bladeren, tot 60 cm hoog. Het volstaat er 3 tot 5 per m² te planten; Het blad van 'Guacamole' is blinkend en geel, met een groene rand, en wordt niet hoger dan 40 cm; Hosta 'Honeybells' bloeit met rechtstaande tuilen van mauve knoppen waaruit witte, geurende bloemen verschijnen. Deze hosta zet je in de halfschaduw of volle zon; Hosta 'Royal Standard' heeft een ovaal en gerimpeld blad en kan tot 80 cm hoog worden. Deze hosta zet je in de halfschaduw of volle zon; Hosta sieboldiana 'Elegans' deze hosta zet je in de halfschaduw, schaduw. De bladeren zijn gerimpeld en blauwgroen; Hosta 'Sum and Substance' heeft een lichtgroen blad en is één van de weinige hosta's die goed tegen felle zon bestand is; 'Blue Angel' is de hoogstbloeiende (tot 120 cm), met grote blauwgrijze bladeren; 'Krossa Regal' heeft beeldschoon, bepoederd grijsgroen, omgevouwen blad met een golvende rand en opvallende plooien. Bloeit violetblauw; 'Golden Tiara' is één van de laagblijvendste cultivars (30 cm), met een opvallend blad met gouden rand, dat mooi contrasteert met de paarsgestreepte bloemen; 'Harry Van Trier' is één van de laagblijvendste hosta's en een uitstekende bodembedekker. Het smalle, donkergroene blad wordt amper 15 cm hoog. Ook de stengels en de bloemen zijn heel donker. Bovendien is deze cultivar zeer rijkbloeiend.

### Onderhoud

Plant hosta in halfschaduw tot diepe schaduw in vochtige, humusrijke grond. Bonte cultivars hebben meer licht nodig dan groene soorten.

Water regelmatig, vooral tijdens droge periodes. Mulch rond planten helpt vocht vasthouden. Werk jaarlijks compost door grond.

Verwijder bloeiaren na bloei tenzij zaad gewenst is. Verdeel grote pollen om de 5-8 jaar in voorjaar voor verjonging.

Hosta werd oorspronkelijk vanuit Azië geïntroduceerd en er bestaan nu meer dan 3000 cultivars. Plant staat symbool voor vriendschap in Japanse cultuur.

Sommige hosta's zoals 'Royal Standard' hebben geurende bloemen. Jonge bladeren van sommige soorten zijn eetbaar en worden in Azië als groente gebruikt.
