Deze brede struik wordt 2-4 meter hoog en heeft handvormige bladeren met 5-7 blaadjes, gevolgd door kleine kastanjes in stekelige doppen. De witte bloemen staan in 15-30 cm lange, kaarsvormige aren met opvallende lange meeldraden die als franjes uit de bloemen steken. Na bloei ontwikkelen zich kleine kastanjes die decoratief zijn maar niet eetbaar zoals die van gewone paardenkastanje. Herfstpaardenkastanje is perfect voor grote borders en parkachtige tuinen waar een bijzondere struik met seizoenswaarde gewenst is. Struik groeit best in beschutte locatie. Snoei minimaal - alleen dode of beschadigde takken wegknippen. Plant heeft natuurlijk mooie vorm en vervelkt bij te veel snoei. Water eerste jaren regelmatig voor goede vestiging. Gevestigde planten zijn redelijk droogteverdragend. Geef ruimte voor breedte-ontwikkeling. ### Dit wist je nog niet: Herfstpaardenkastanje wordt ook 'bottlebrush buckeye' genoemd vanwege de flessenborselvormige bloemen. Plant trekt kolibries aan in oorspronkelijke habitat. Struik breidt zich langzaam uit via worteluitlopers en kan na jaren natuurlijke groepen vormen.
