# Gewone vleugelnoot

## Pterocarya fraxinifolia

Gewone vleugelnoot (Pterocarya fraxinifolia) is een indrukwekkende loofboom uit de Kaukasus die kan uitgroeien tot monumentale exemplaren van 20-25 meter hoog met brede, koepelvormige kroon. Deze snelgroeiende boom heeft zeer grote, geveerde bladeren van 30-60 cm lang met 11-27 blaadjes en produceert karakteristieke hangende katjes met gevleugelde nootjes.

De boom bloeit in mei met lange, hangende groene katjes die zich ontwikkelen tot decoratieve snoeren van gevleugelde vruchten die tot 50 cm lang kunnen worden. In herfst verkleuren de grote bladeren helder geel voordat ze vallen. Gewone vleugelnoot is perfect voor grote tuinen en parkachtige settings waar een bijzondere, monumentale boom met exotische uitstraling gewenst is.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Waar plaatsen

De gewone vleugelnoot geniet van een plaatsje in de volle zon of halfschaduw met een voedselrijke en vochtige bodem.

### Onderhoud

Plant gewone vleugelnoot in volle zon in diepe, vochtige, voedselrijke grond. Boom houdt van vochtige omstandigheden maar verdraagt geen langdurige wateroverlast.

Snoei alleen voor vormcorrectie in jonge jaren. Oudere bomen hebben nauwelijks snoei nodig behalve verwijdering van beschadigde takken.

Geef ruimte voor uiteindelijke grootte - boom heeft veel ruimte nodig. Water jonge bomen tijdens droge periodes voor goede vestiging.

### Dit wist je nog niet:

Vleugelnoot is verwant aan walnoot, maar heeft geen eetbare noten. De hangende vruchtsnoeren zijn zeer decoratief en blijven lang aan de boom hangen.

In oorspronkelijke habitat groeit vleugelnoot langs rivieren en in vochtige valleien. Boom is zeldzaam in tuinen, maar verdient meer aandacht om zijn bijzondere uitstraling.
