Deze vroege bloei maakt het een onschatbare nectarbron voor bijen in het voorjaar wanneer weinig anders bloeit. De boom groeit langzaam uit tot 6-8 meter hoog en ontwikkelt in de loop der jaren een pittoreske, onregelmatige kroon. Na de spectaculaire gele bloei verschijnen ovale bladeren, gevolgd door eetbare, kersen-achtige rode vruchten in augustus-september die uitstekend zijn voor jam en likeur. Gele kornoelje is essentieel voor ecologische tuinen waar vroege bijenvoeding en seizoenswaarde belangrijk zijn. Boom is zeer droogteverdragend eens gevestigd en groeit in arme tot rijke grond. Snoei alleen indien nodig in zomer na bloei. Jonge bomen kunnen gevormd worden, oudere exemplaren hebben nauwelijks snoei nodig voor natuurlijke groei. Water jonge bomen tijdens droge periodes. Voor vruchten: plant meerdere exemplaren of kies zelfvruchtbare cultivars. Bemesting is zelden nodig. ### Dit wist je nog niet: Gele kornoelje is een van de belangrijkste vroege nectarplanten en ondersteunt talloze bijensoorten wanneer andere voedingsbronnen nog schaars zijn. Ecologisch zeer waardevol. Het harde hout werd traditioneel gebruikt voor werktuigen en wapens.
