# Geitenbaard

## Aruncus dioicus

Geitenbaard (Aruncus dioicus) is een imposante schaduwplant die uitgroeit tot 1,5-2 meter hoge pollen met elegante, geveerde bladeren en spectaculaire witte bloempluimen in juni-juli. Deze architecturale vaste plant heeft diep ingesneden bladeren die lijken op die van roos of spirea en produceert massale, roomwitte bloempluimen die boven het bladerwerk uitsteken.

De bloempluimen kunnen 30-50 cm lang worden en bestaan uit duizenden kleine bloemetjes die bijen en andere bestuivers massaal aantrekken. Mannelijke en vrouwelijke planten hebben verschillende bloemen - mannelijke zijn voller en spectaculairder. Geitenbaard is perfect voor grote schaduwborders waar een dramatische, architecturale plant gewenst is die structuur geeft zonder overweldigend te worden.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Waar plaatsen

Geitenbaard vereist een frisse, vochtige, humusrijke doorlatende bodem op een plaats met wat schaduw. Wanneer de bodem voldoende vochthoudend is kan hij ook volle zon verdragen.  
Plantdichtheid: 2 - 3 per m²

### Cultivars (Soorten)

*A. dioicus 'Kneiffii'* heeft een ingesneden blad. De bloemen blijven lager (80 cm).

### Onderhoud

Plant geitenbaard in (half)schaduw in vochtige, humusrijke grond. Plant verdraagt ochtendzon maar heeft beschutting nodig tegen hete middagzon.

Water regelmatig tijdens droge periodes - geitenbaard is dorstig en laat bladeren hangen bij droogte. Mulchen helpt vocht vasthouden.

Knip uitgebloeide pluimen weg voor nettere uitstraling of laat staan voor winterstructuur. Plant heeft verder weinig onderhoud nodig.

### Dit wist je nog niet:

Geitenbaard is een magneet voor bijen tijdens bloeiperiode en biedt massa's nectar wanneer veel andere schaduwplanten al uitgebloeid zijn. Ecologisch zeer waardevol.

De plant wordt ook wel 'bosasparagus' genoemd vanwege jonge scheuten die eetbaar zijn. In traditionele geneeskunde werd geitenbaard gebruikt voor vrouwenaandoeningen.
