# Duifkruid

## Scabiosa columbaria 'Butterfly Blue'

Duifkruid (Scrophularia) is een robuuste, inheemse vaste plant met opvallende, hoekige stengels en kleine, maar talrijke bruinrode bloemetjes die bijzonder geliefd zijn bij bijen en hommels.

Deze plant groeit 60-120 cm hoog en bloeit van juni tot september met karakteristieke bloempluimen boven het grove, gezaagde bladwerk. De merkwaardige bloemen zijn klein, maar zeer nectarrijk, waardoor duifkruid een magneet is voor bestuivers. De plant verdient zijn naam door de hartvormige zaden die in kapsels zitten en geliefd zijn bij duiven en andere zaadeters.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Waar plaatsen

Plant duifkruid op een zonnige plaats met een goed doorlaatbare bodem.   
Plantdichtheid: 7 - 9 per m²

### Onderhoud

Plant duifkruid in volle zon tot halfschaduw in vochtige tot matig droge grond. De plant is niet kieskeurig qua grondsoort en groeit in zowel zware klei als lichte zandgrond.

Geen bijzondere verzorging nodig - duifkruid is zeer zelfstandig en droogteverdragend eens gevestigd. Knip uitgebloeide stengels weg om zelfzaai te voorkomen of laat staan voor zaadeters.

Water alleen bij extreme droogte. Plant kan terugkomen uit de wortelstok als bovengrondse delen afsterven. Zeer winterhard en onderhoudsarm.

### Dit wist je nog niet:

Duifkruid heeft rijke geschiedenis in de volksgeneeskunde en werd traditioneel gebruikt voor wondbehandeling en huidaandoeningen. Tegenwoordig vooral gewaardeerd om ecologische waarde.

De plant biedt habitat voor verschillende insectensoorten en de zaden voeden vogels in najaar en winter. Perfect voor permacultuurtuinen waar elke plant meerdere functies heeft.
