# Druif

## Vitis vinifera

Druif (Vitis vinifera) is een productieve klimplant die niet alleen heerlijke vruchten levert, maar ook decoratieve waarde heeft met zijn grote, gelobbeerde bladeren en ranken.

Deze mediterrane klimmer kan in Vlaanderen uitstekend groeien tegen warme, beschutte muren en produceert in september-oktober zoete druiventrossen. De plant groeit krachtig en kan 5-10 meter hoog klimmen via ranken die zich vasthechten aan steun.

In de herfst verkleuren de bladeren prachtig geel tot rood voordat ze afvallen. Er bestaan talloze rassen van tafel- tot wijndruiven. Perfect voor pergola's, priëlen en zuidgerichte muren waar de plant optimaal kan profiteren van zon en warmte.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Waar plaatsen

Plant een druif tegen een zo zonnig mogelijke muur of schutting, of leid over een pergola. De beste plaats is een zuidmuur, de bodem moet kalkrijk en kleiachtig zijn. In maart - april bemest je de druivelaar.

### Cultivars (Soorten)

De vruchten rijpen te laat voor ons koel klimaat. Daarom kan je best vroegrijpende en meeldauwresistente rassen kiezen zoals o.a. *Muscat Blue, Birstaler Muscat...*  
Lekkere zoete druiven zijn onder andere de blauwe *'Frankenthaler'.* Deze cultivar moet in de serre staan. Lekkere en ziekteresistente eetdruiven voor buiten zijn *Boskoop Glory* en *New York Muscat.* *Brant* en *Purpurea* zijn erg mooie siercultivars met vlammende herfstblad.

### Onderhoud

Plant druif in volle zon tegen warme, beschutte muur of aan stevige pergola. De plant heeft goed doorlatende, liefst kalkhoudende grond nodig en profiteert van warmte-opslag van stenen.

Snoei in winterrust (december-februari) door zijscheuten terug te snoeien tot 2-3 ogen. Zomersnoei door lange scheuten in te korten bevordert luchtcirculatie en rijping.

Water regelmatig tijdens droge periodes, maar vermijd wateroverlast. Bemest matig - te rijke grond geeft veel blad ten koste van vruchten.

### Dit wist je nog niet:

Druif biedt dubbel genot: decoratieve waarde met prachtige herfstverkleuring en culinair genot van eigen geteelde druiven. De plant creëert natuurlijke schaduw op terrassen en pergola's.

Historisch zijn druiven essentieel voor wijnbouw, maar ook verse consumptie en rozijnenproductie. In Vlaanderen zijn vroegrijpende tafeldruivenrassen het meest succesvol.
