# Dotterbloem

## Caltha palustris

Dotterbloem (Caltha palustris) is een spectaculaire inheemse waterplant die vroeg in het voorjaar moerassige plekken en vijverranden opfleurt met glanzende, goudgele bloemen.

Deze winterharde vaste plant heeft hartvormige, glanzend groene bladeren en bloeit april-mei wanneer weinig andere waterplanten actief zijn. De plant groeit 20-40 cm hoog en vormt dichte pollen die zich langzaam uitbreiden via worteluitlopers. Dotterbloem is een echte voorjaarsklassieker die perfect past bij natuurlijke vijvers, moerassen en vochtige borders. Essential voor natuurlijke watertuinen en belangrijk voor vroege bijenvoeding.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Waar plaatsen

Geef de plant een plaats in de halfschaduw tot volle zon. De bodem dient steeds vochtig te zijn. Hoe voedselrijker de grond, hoe groter de bladeren zullen worden. Kan solitair aangeplant worden, maar komt mooier tot zijn recht in groep.  
Plantdichtheid: 4 - 9 per m²

### Cultivars (Soorten)

*C. palustris var. alba* is een laagblijvende cultivar met enkele witte bloemen en gele meeldraden.

### Onderhoud

Plant dotterbloem in volle zon tot halfschaduw in natte tot moerassige grond of ondiepe waterranden. De plant verdraagt tijdelijk uitdrogen, maar prefereert constant vochtige omstandigheden.

Geen bijzondere verzorging nodig - de plant zorgt volledig voor zichzelf. Na bloei sterven bladeren langzaam af. Vermeerdering gebeurt natuurlijk via worteluitlopers.

Oude bloeihoofden kunnen weggeknepen worden, maar dit is niet nodig. Plant trekt zelf terug in winter en komt voorjaar weer op.

### Dit wist je nog niet:

Dotterbloem speelt belangrijke rol in natuurlijke waterecosystemen en biedt vroege nectar wanneer nog weinig bloeit. De plant trekt verschillende waterinsecten aan die op hun beurt vogels voeden.

Historisch gebruikt als geneeskrachtige plant, maar tegenwoordig hoofdzakelijk gewaardeerd om natuurwaarde. Combineert prachtig met iris, lisdodde en andere oeverplanten.
