# Dikkemanskruid (sedum)

## Pachysandra terminalis

Dikkemanskruid (Sedum) is een veelzijdige succulente plant die perfect past in moderne, waterbesparende tuinen. Deze vetplant heeft dikke, vlezige bladeren die water opslaan en vormt tapijten van groen met spectaculaire bloei in diverse kleuren van wit en geel tot roze en rood.

De grote diversiteit aan soorten biedt opties voor elke situatie: van bodembedekkers zoals tripmadam tot hoge borderplanten zoals vetkruid. Sedum bloeit hoofdzakelijk in nazomer en herfst wanneer veel andere planten al uitgebloed zijn. Uitstekend voor extensieve daktuinen, steentuinen en droge borders.

##  Belangrijke zaken om te weten 

### Waar plaatsen

Dikkemanskruid is een goede bodembedekker en is daarom ideaal voor dichte vakbeplanting en goed te combineren als bos(rand)plant met varens en hosta's.  
Plantdichtheid: 8 - 12 per m²

### Cultivars (Soorten)

*P. terminalis 'Green Carpet'* heeft een glimmend groen blad, dat laag bij de grond blijft (10 cm). Ideaal voor grootschalige beplantingen; De cultivar *'Variegata'* heeft bonte bladeren met roomwit, grijsgroen en groen, en is erg decoratief in kleinere groepen, zo'n 10 tot 15 planten per m².

### Onderhoud

Plant sedum in volle zon in goed doorlatende grond. De plant verdraagt arme, stenige grond uitstekend - rijke grond maakt de plant te weelderig en minder winterhard.

Water alleen bij extreme droogte. Te veel water veroorzaakt wortelrot en zachte groei. Sedum is gebaat bij verwaarlozing.

Knip hoge soorten in maart terug tot 5 cm voor nieuwe groei. Lage soorten hebben geen snoei nodig. Vermeerdering via stekken is kinderspel.

### Dit wist je nog niet:

Sedum is een ecologische meerwaarde door zijn lange bloeiperiode die bijen en vlinders voet in de herfst wanneer andere voedingsbronnen schaars worden. Perfecte plant voor biodiversiteit.

Ideaal voor extensieve groendaken waar gewicht en onderhoud beperkt moeten blijven. Sedum kan extreme temperatuurschommelingen aan en vraagt geen bemesting.
